Student Visa for South Korea

Everything you need to know about obtaining a South Korean student visa — from document requirements to the application process.

Visa Types

The type of visa you need depends on your program of study and duration.

D-2 (Student Visa)

For degree-seeking students (Bachelor's, Master's, PhD). Valid for the duration of your program. Allows part-time work with permission.

D-4 (General Training)

For language training programs (Korean language courses) and internship programs. Typically valid for 6 months to 2 years.

D-2 - Short-term

For exchange students or short-term academic programs lasting less than 90 days. Can be obtained as a visa waiver for some nationalities.

Required Documents

Prepare these documents for your student visa application at the Korean Embassy in Kathmandu.

Valid Passport

Must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended stay. Have at least 2 blank pages.

Certificate of Admission

Official admission letter from your Korean university. This confirms your acceptance into the program.

Financial Proof

Bank statement showing at least $10,000–$20,000 USD (or equivalent in NPR). Must be from a recognized bank in Nepal.

Academic Documents

Attested copies of transcripts, diplomas, and certificates from all previous education. May need notarized translation.

Visa Application Form

Completed visa application form (available from the Korean Embassy website). Fill out accurately and completely.

Passport Photos

2 recent passport-sized photographs (35mm × 45mm) with white background.

Application Process

Step-by-step guide from receiving admission to entering Korea.

Step 1

Receive Certificate of Admission from your university. The university will guide you through the next steps.

Step 2

Submit visa application at the Korean Embassy in Kathmandu with all required documents. Processing takes 2-4 weeks.

Step 3

If approved, receive your visa sticker in your passport. Pay the visa fee (approximately NPR 5,000–8,000).

Step 4

Book your flight to Korea. You can enter up to 30 days before your program start date.

Step 5

Within 90 days of arrival, register at the local immigration office to get your Alien Registration Card (ARC).
